Black Panther - Endangered Species

Endangered Black Panther
The U.S. Endangered Species act has listed leopards on the African continent as Threatened (South Africa) and Endangered (the rest of Africa and Middle East & Asia).  CITES is the agency that classifies species internationally and has listed the leopard as vulnerable.  In the 1970s, all leopards were listed as vulnerable by the World Conservation Union (IUCN), and international trade in leopard was prohibited.  However, since 1983 several African countries have been permitted to export a limited number of leopards.

Threat from Human

The black panther, like all members of its species, has no greater enemy in nature than the human. Farmers have killed it with poison and traps.  Hunters have killed it for adventure.  The fashion trade has driven the price of leopard coat to sky-high.

Threat from Environment

Habitat loss and deterioration is threatening the survival of black panther animals.  Most of environment change is caused by human directly or indirectly.
